If your budget calls for carbon steel, don’t worry—it can still perform admirably with the right surface treatment. Zinc-nickel plating is currently one of the best options, providing up to 720 hours of protection against red rust in salt spray tests. QPQ (quench-polish-quench) treatment is another excellent choice, offering both surface hardness and strong corrosion resistance at a lower cost than full stainless steel.

Simple habits that keep couplings in good shape

Material aside, a few everyday practices can dramatically extend the service life of your quick couplings:

Keep the coupling surfaces clean before connecting. Dirt and debris trap moisture against the metal, accelerating corrosion.
Use protective caps and plugs when couplings aren’t in use. This small habit keeps dust out and seals the mating surfaces from moisture.
Apply anti-corrosion oil if the equipment will be stored for a long period.
Perform regular visual checks for early signs of rust, pitting, or wear.
